A Western Diamondback Rattlesnake photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas 24 March 2023.

1/1600 sec
f/8.0
ISO 400

This is the biggest and oldest snake that I've ever seen at the ranch.  The head had a different shape in that it was not diamond shaped, but much wider towards the back of the head.

A little better detail viewed large.

Great low angle and details, Gene. Probably a good idea to use a long focal length. :)

Excellent head shot- it really says "snake" in spades! The eye is especially good to see here.

Fantastic shot. The low angle works really well. The wideness towards the back of the head indicates large venom glands.
