Only rookery I know of in this area of VA. On banks of Shenandoah River at Cool Spring. Herons are flying back and forth this time of year as babies appear to be in most of the nests.

It’s neat to see a heron rookery, being that they tend to be mostly solitary in most areas where I see them. The only Great Blue Heron rookery that I have seen in New Mexico was in the middle of the desert and far from any water. It has now been displaced by housing, sadly enough.

A nice behaviour illustration of a heron rookery, Jeff.

Great to see so many nests in this location. Should get interesting when the offspring starts flying.

Impressive numbers! Like Joe, I'm lucky to see one, maybe 2 nests.
