White-winged Scoter - Arizona
a1, 200-600mm + 1.4x @ 840mm, ISO 500, f/10, 1/320s

This bird and his mate are creating quite a stir in the Phoenix Metro since they appeared on a popular local park pond after the huge Pacific storms that rolled through the west last weekend bringing birders from 100's of miles away.  It is exceedingly rare to have White-winged Scoters in the Sonoran Desert...

Rare indeed to have one of these sea ducks in the desert! Beautiful image, gorgeous colour and warm light.

Love the eye! Interestingly enough, there has been one near Las Cruces, NM, as well:

Great find and what a cool setting for this species. Makes me wonder if the Scoter will find its way back to the ocean eventually.

Great find E.J. interesting to have the copper tones in the water. Lake Ontario has a lot of these but we never get that great colouring in the water.

That’s just early morning sunshine reflecting off of trees and grass

ha ha ya I suspected as much, it's just that we never see that effect at our locations for these birds, about the only birds that you might see that effect around here would be Wood Ducks and Hoodies because they'll frequent the ponds.  Regardless of why it looks great.

Love the low angle and golden water. Nice detail in the blacks. Great find.
