Given that GFX 50S II is discounted to $3200 right now, is this a good choice to try out medium format? I plan to use it mostly for landscape and architecture. I would have liked to get the GFX 100S but it's way out of my budget right now. I can get the 50s II and
GF 45-100 f/4 lens for the price of 100S. Is that a good lens to have if I want to have only 1 lens for now?

Any recommendations are highly appreciated.

Thank you,
Rajan

It’s a phenomenal landscape camera. It is identical to the GFX 100S except for the sensor. The downside of that is that the 50mp sensor does not have phase detect AF - only contrast detect but for landscapes that isn’t a big problem since you won’t be tracking action. I used the original GFX-50 before going to the 100S and this is the same sensor but in a much better camera body.

Thank you E.J.
Is 45-100 a good lens - probably not the widest option, right?

I am also looking at the Laowa 20 Shift lens - any thoughts on that?

The widest Fuji lens is the 20-35 (16-28 equivalent) but I also have the very good Laowa 17mm prime lens for GFX (~13mm equivalent)
My workhorse lens is the 32-64 (25-50 equivalent) - it is rated a little higher than the 45-100 but all of the lenses are outstanding so no worries there.
I have a hole in my lineup between 64 and 100 (I have the 100-200) which the 45-100 would fill but I don’t currently own it as I’m not sure I want to carry the extra weight.
I also have the insanely good 250mm f/4 but it is too large and heavy in most situations and the 120mm macro.

I have not seen or used the Laowa 20mm - is it even available yet?  Venus Optics usually takes a year or more to actually ship products after they announce them.

I am toying with getting a 50S as a backup body!  I absolutely love this camera system.  The menu system is a bit weird but you get used to it and you can easily set-up the function menu and my menu with all the stuff you need access to quickly.  Let me know if you need any more help before and after you get this great camera. ;)

That was very helpful EJ.
I was thinking about adding 20-35 in the future to compliment 45-100.
And use Laowa 20 shift as a bridge till I can do so. Yes, 20mm is available and it is a shift lens, which makes it interesting.
