I hope it is OK that I am posting this here. Since we all photograph and love nature, the impact of the war in Ukraine, directly and/or indirectly affects us all.
This terrible war is not only affecting the people, it is also devastating Ukraine’s national parks and other protected areas and the species that live there.
From a cellar in a city under siege, ever resourceful Ukrainians have organized a way to receive donations to protect these natural places and the people out in the field struggling to preserve them.
Here is what their new English webpage says:
“Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group works twenty-four hours a day during the war to keep Ukraine’s natural protected areas functional and support their employees.
“In total, one-third of the protected areas and sites, including two biosphere reserves, are currently located in the zones of active hostilities, occupation and humanitarian crisis. The government support to these territories and their employees is now limited due to the ban on transferring the budgetary funds to temporarily occupied territories and extensive bureaucratic procedures to establish needed support. Furthermore, the national parks and reserves have completely lost the income from tourism, which they are so heavily dependent on. So at present such protected areas have lost their supply and require our aid.
“We address our efforts to:
- Purchasing fodder and medicine for animals in zoos and open-air enclosures, evacuating animals, re-equipping enclosures, etc.
- Implementing possible measures to preserve the most valuable natural ecosystems and objects.
- Restoring the critical infrastructure of nature reserves damaged by the war.
- Providing aid to the staff of nature reserves who have lost their homes, who are in the zone of active hostilities, who require food, water, medicines, etc.
- Adapting and re-equipping the infrastructure to military conditions.
- Supporting vital needs to run organizations that manage protected areas.
“We are kindly requesting you to join efforts to save natural reserves, which are not only a part of Ukrainian heritage, but also the heritage of the world and for all people who care!”

So if you can, PLEASE DONATE HERE. https://uncg.org.ua/save-wildlife-in-war/

Thanks for helping.
