I doubt that Nikon could afford Tower but Intel can ;)

Logistically this makes sense as Tower's biggest factory is located close to several large Intel facilities in Israel.

LOL - I retired from Intel over 12 years ago and we were already switched over to ASML then and just using the lower tech Nikon steppers for non-critical layers and for older legacy technologies.  Thom makes it sound like the transition away from Nikon steppers is a recent thing...

I don't know of any other litho company that could compete with ASML in ArF immersion and now multi-patterning.  ASML bought up SVG back around 2000 and although SVG had three divisions there only real interest was buying up the IP SVG had for litho.  Nikon and Canon are still in use for larger feature size things and even the newest devices have layers that are within reach of those older machines.  At this point It's ASML and, well. nobody...
