Computer components suggestions

Hi all,I am replacing my ageing computer and would like some advice from those who are more experienced than me.The main use would be for processing landscape shots mixed in with some Panos and nature shots. These would be taken on the 5Dmkiii and processed in Photoshop 2021 along with various Topaz plugins plus a few more. As I'm getting on a bit, this will be my last new build computer, so to a certain degree will want it to be future proof.

Will there be any need for a scratch disk with this set-up?

This is what I have picked so far

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x CPU 8 cores/16 threads  3.8-4.7 GHz
NZXT C750 80+Gold 750w modular PSU
Noctua NH-U12s CPU cooler
NVidia GForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB
Asus Prime X570-Pro MB
64GB DDR4 3200 MHz memory
1Tb  Samsung 980 Pro M.2 PCle Gen 4 SSD
2x Seagate 6TB IronWolf Pro 7200RPM
Windows Pro 64bit
Fractal Design Focus G Case

I am engaged in the same exercise.

My intention is to follow the suggestions made by Puget Systems and the system will presumably look something like this:

AMD 5900
1 TB Samsung Pro
64GB memory (2 32GB sticks)
Nvidia 3070
750 or 850 power supply

I have a relatively new, large SSD that I use for the picture files and I intend to move that into the new machine.

Good luck, and I suggest that you read the articles and blog posts on the Puget web site to see the tests and comparisons that have been done with Photoshop.

Peter and others,

Make sure your new desktop (motherboard and/or I/O card) has latest and fastest ports (and enough of them) to meet current and future needs. USB 3.1 is so much faster than USB 3.

For an internal spinning drive for image storage, I think 6 TB is too small. I would think about 12 TB or larger. I have two 12 TB HDDs in my desktop and they are too small.

When your desktop is built, make sure it has an open port for another HDD if you decide to add one. Have the builder set it up for you so all you have to do is plug in the new HDD.

I do not have enough tech knowledge to comment on "scratch" drives and a second SSD drive.

Just make sure there is enough cooling. Extra fans are cheap.

Thanks Mark. Yes, I have seen the comparison sheet.

Yes,the MB I have picked has 3.2 Gen 2 USB's. As for the storage,I am not as prolific in taking photographs as some of you are on here, I have managed with 2 2TB drives for the last 7 years. So I think the 2 6TB should be ample.

The graphics card is several generations old, I'd consider going at minimum to a 2xxx card and preferably to a 3xxx

Thanks, EJ. The next up on the ones I can pick is the RTX 3060 12GB,so I have gone with that.
