Sony a9.

The price has been dropped by $1000. ($2998 USD)
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to buy it and sell  my Sony a7R III.
I have the a7R IV for static and BIF right now and the a7R III sits on a self.
Sony a9 would be better for BIF and might even for static shooting.
24 MP is not very impressive but might just be enough.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Karl.

Hi Karl:

The Sony A9 and A9 II are both terrific cameras and now both are available at competitive prices in the used camera market.   I owned  the Sony A9 II until I bought my Sony A1.  In my view, my Sony A9 II was versatile enough to produce high quality sports, wildlife, and landscape images; and if the Sony A1 had not come along, I would have been very happy and pleased with my Sony A9 II.

Best Regards,

Roman   :D

Not being a Sony user doesn't mean that I cannot see logic when it shows. You've already got the a7RIV to cover a lot of what you use and the A9 would add another dimension / option, so makes sense to use a camera that is merely sitting on the shelf now to good use by using it to acquire the A9.

Hi Karl, I shot with that combo...A9 and A7R4 until recently. It's a great combo because you have the high pixel density when you need it, and you have far superior autofocus for when you need that instead. For birds, I found the 1.4x was glued to the 200-600 when using the A9. I generally used the A7R4 all the time except when I needed top-notch AF.

Thank you all. I ended up not buying the new  9a, instead I bought a used a9 II at a good price and low shutter count. I went with the 9a II as the body and the firmware are very similar to that of a7R4. I haven't tried it for BIF yet, will do it today. Thanks for all the help making my decision easier. It is time to sell the a7R III now, that I no longer use.
