Watch the rest of the video, the camera does a pretty good job of following the subject he intended, much like the Sony.

True but it comes with a huge BUT - the only way to get that is to shoot in Live view which means you ahve to hold the camera out in front of you rather than to your eye or rig a contrapion with a Hoodman loupe like Fro did.  You don't need to do that with the a9....  If you shoot through the viewfinder on the 1Dx3 you don't get that kind of AF...

Agreed, I think the takeaway from the demonstration is that Canon seems to be close to A9 mirrorless ability. Maybe the R5 will be a mirrorless version of the live view on the 1Dx...except with 40+ megapixels?

OMG! Can't manufacturers understand that it is these "flaws" that ruin their reputation the most.  A new product might need a bit of refining of a small item or another after much use.  However, a camera locking up like this is totally unacceptable.  Hopefully these are isolated early production issues and not representative of the entire inventory.  I am a Canon shooter - I have too much $$ in lenses to switch to anything.  I remember the 1D Mark III fiasco and hope this isn't a repeat.

I lost a lot of confidence in Canon with that fiasco - it sowed the seed for my switch to Sony

Have to agree, I got fed up waiting for Canon to start to jump ahead so happy I went the Sony route .

Nikon D600 issue in a camera costing 4 times as much.  Ultimately Nikon came out with a new model and replaced many D600's.

I remember a 1DxII owner telling me about always needing a wet clean after any high burst shooting. Same issue on two models is a little alarming. Have to say that most of the problem seems to be top of the image, therefore bottom of the sensor, so it makes sense that it is lube.
