Epson Stylus Pro 3800

I have a Epson Stylus Pro 3800. Printer has been great up till today. I am getting a communication error went trying to print. My computer is not seeing the printer. Went I disconnect the USB cable from the printer, my computer dings, for lack of a better term, and dings again went connecting back up. I tried the USB cable on my HP Deskjet and had no problems. Have updated drivers, and even made it the default printer to no avail. The printer seem to be working find from the printer menu. What else may be the problem? Is it just getting old like me.
