Not sure what the status is for this species in your areas, but on Vancouver Island it has almost disappeared.  Occasionally they pop in and visit my feeders, but usually only stay for an hour or two. If I have time, I set up a few perches for them, and if I get lucky, this happens.  Next to the Varied Thrush, my favourite bird.

A beauty,Tim! Also one of my favorites. Two weeks ago I drove 7 hrs to upstate New York to try to photograph these with marginal success. Been enjoying your post. Excellent image!

Gorgeous shot, Tim. one of favorite birds too. One of the best photos I've seen. (I posted a few shots some time ago, but not like this one!)

They do stay and breed here on my property...at least they have in the past.  They are  endangered here too. See my post here:

Recently I receive a request from a local group (Vermont Center for Ecostudies) to report any Evenings and a request to come to my property to band them.( I  have had them here every year for  over 35 years. with fewer arrivals every year) . They usually arrive mid-February. Eagerly awaiting  a return...if at all.

Beautiful image of this attractive bird, Tim. I haven't seen them around here, I used to see them in Massachusetts but only rarely. I think they are more common farther north.

Tim, I have never personally seen an Evening Grosbeak. Thanks for sharing. A beautiful bird, a beautiful image.

Smashing image Tim. This is a beauty although a bit scary to hear of their scarcity.

We still have them here in Ontario (Algonquin) Tim but I've never gotten an image as nice as this one.

A beautiful image, Tim. Perfect lighting for this photograph, plus the evergreen perch is a high light, as well.
