Image
A male and female Pyrrhuloxia photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas.  1/16,000 sec, f/5.6, iso 4000, 12 January 25, Olympus OM1 w/ 40-150 with 1.4 tc at 350 mm.  Typically I do not photograph above 3200 iso.  I've seen so many excellent images at a higher iso that were posted on NatureScapes, that I thought that I would do a test.  I photographed images between 4000 iso and 8000 iso and then processed them to see what they would look like.  I was pleasantly surprised that they looked OK.

Large view looks a little better.

Agree. And...wondering if the "neck rub" is a happy occasion. The female (?) doesn't look too pleased!

Superb image, Gene. Much to be said about the OM1 system, judging from your photograph here!

Interesting moment and interaction, Gene. The image quality looks very good at this ISO setting.

Nicely done Gene, the image looks great. I know someone that shoots exclusively with the OM1 and swears by it and I've seen his images and they look great. You tried hard to introduce some noise ... 1/16,000, ISO 4,000 and a small sensor, zoom + extender and no noise .... gotta love modern technology.
