spotted towhee doesn't sound like a first nations/native American name.  Of course even with the settlers things had one name in one valley and another on the other side of the mountain.

I look forward to the day when the common name for Cyanocitta stelleri is spelled correctly without a lengthy argument on social media.  For this reason alone, change the name.  Likewise the common name for Rallus obsoletus, I can never spell it correctly without looking it up.
