Female Golden-fronted Woodpecker photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas 27 April 2023.

You can tell this is a female because it does not have a red dot on its head.

I like your timing part on getting the tail in a open fan position and the rest is good as-well, swell stuff GENE.

Peter, When a Woodpecker lands on a perch, they almost always use their tail to form a three-point position, and this helps to make them much more stable.

Another fine woodpecker image, Gene. Quite an interesting perch- a nice touch of yellow from the cactus top, adds to the photo here, as well.

Nicely done, Gene! I always wonder why anything wants to land on a prickly perch like this.

Great capture, Gene. I like the perch, details and pose. Interesting to see that they can land there without hurting themselves.
