Great topside view and fanned tail. Is the background sand or a hill?

Siliconworm, Very well accomplished. Curious what autofocus mode you were using?

The background is a marsh

I've experimented with many cameras and many AF modes. The best one I found so far for flying swallows is Z9's AF-C with full area auto or center area box focus (with detection mode set to animals). I set the AF tracking response time to minimal (no delay) and subject movement mode to "erratic". This is still not enough, however, because the distance of the swallow changes rapidly and the Z9 has a tendency to focus on complex background (even more so than DSLRs). So I need to frequently use focus limiter and focus point recall for pre-focusing as well.
