American Oystercatcher

Yesteday, I checked on an Oystercatcher nest on the beach at Fort DeSoto State Park, Florida. My lucky day as 3 chicks hatched while I sat there and watched. Wish I could have been closer but Audubon has the site roped off and you have to stay a long way away (but I'm sure that it is a good thing).

They rope off nesting areas here, too, but the Oystercatchers are the most likely to take the chicks to the shore to feed them there.
