This boy looks like he's on a mission Karl! Love the beautiful detail, colour and raised crest as he motors along and creates quite a bow wave. Wonderful shot.

Great image as always Karl, I think the Red-breasted is just as photogenic, as the Hooded .... all great birds, of course! The crest, all the colours in the photo, plus the lighting and the wake around the subject, all contribute to this fine image. ( It appears that the teleconverter worked very well to give you the extra focal length, and the resulting sharp image).

Thanks Paul. I tested the 1.4x TC but I'll rarely use it on the 100-500.
Bought it for the small, cheap and light 100-400 when I will go to visit our younger Son in Manitoba. There might be some good birds there.

Great eye contact and hairdo, the TC seems to work well.

Cool capture Karl. Looks like he is ready to take on all comers. The Mike Tyson of Mergansers.

Thanks, Jake. I don't know if it a feisty bird but it is the fastest flying bird among "waterbirds"

Love the crest up and the sense of motion-an exciting shot! Congrats!
