Male Buff-breasted Paradise Kingfisher (Tanysiptera sylvia), the female has slightly shorter streamers, and besides, she is in the nest with recently hatched chicks, while the male is on food delivery duties. When the chicks are larger the female will also gather food.
These gorgeous birds don't take into account bird photographers preferred techs and lighting conditions when choosing to nest in termite mounds on the floor of the dark wet tropical rainforest. They migrate to North Queensland to breed from PNG, and will return after the breeding season is over. ISO 32,000, 600mm, f4, 1/1000, on Canon R5. Click for better resolution. |
