I'm thinking about replacing my 7 year old desktop with a mini PC (Windows) and also getting an external HD enclosure that I can share
between the mini PC and my MacBook Pro.

I think a mini PC with an 8-core CPU, 32GB RAM and an 500GB or 1TB NVMe SSD would handle the PC requirements but I then need a way to connect my legacy HD's to both the mini PC and my 16" MacBook Pro (MAX).

One option for the mini PC is a Beelink SER4 Ryzen Mini PC Windows 11 Pro AMD Ryzen 7 4800U(7nm, 8C/16T) up to 4.2GHz, 32GB DDR4 RAM 500GB NVME SSD available from Amazon for about $570.

The external HD enclosure would need tp handle at least 3 HD's (WD Blacks of 6TB each) as well as a SSD so 4 drive bays.  To get the most performance I think a Thunderbolt-3/USB4 would be best.  One option I see here is the OWC ThunderBay 4 mini 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array and Drive Enclosure available for about $250 at B&H.

So, any recommendations?

Thanks,

Brian

One of the OWC enclosures is exactly what I would go with if this was me doing what you are doing :)

I ordered the OWC enclosure, 4-bay with TB3 support.

I also ordered the Beelink SER4 mini PC.
