I've been doing more video of late and my video options are limited to 1080P standard HD with a GoPro Hero 3 Black, as well as a Pany GH3, my D800E's, and a Blackvue HD600 dashcam.  I'd like to upgrade to 4K video but the only camera I have that can shoot 4K is my Samy smartphone Note4 and that's not really practical for more series video work.

OK, looking at the options I could go with a GoPro Hero 4 at about $500/$600 or replace the GH3 with a GH4 as I have three decent lenses for it.  Those appear the most obvious choices but what other ones are out there.  I should mention that small and portable are desirable and being able to mount to my car for HQ video would be nice.  I played around with the suction cup mount for my GoPro and mounted it to the outside top of my windshield to record video along some of the more photogenic drives I've bee on but the suction cup mount didn't work that good and in fact my Hero 3 fell off the car twice but still survives.  I finally attached a sticky back mount to the outside top of the windshield and the video I get when using it is much more stable than the suction cup mount and is very unlikely to fall off.

So, for the car mounted stuff the Hero 4 would seem to be the way to go but the one thing I don't like about the Hero 3 is the shot battery life of 25-40 minutes.  Anyone know what the battery life of the Hero 4 is?

As an update ...

I have not purchased a 4K camera at this point other than the one that came with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but I did just buy some editing software that is 4K capable -- Cyberlink PowerDiector 13 Ultimate Suite.

I have a bunch of older video going back to Hi-8 that I'm starting to work on and hopefully I'll add a legitimate 4K camera in the near future.  One thing that may effect a camera choice is the potential of adapting it to a quadcopter at some point.  Then again, with drones in the news just about every day and most of that news being bad I'm not sure how long before they outlaw them.

Ever feel like you're having a one-sided conversation Brian? It's a little sad that this forum has never really taken off.

I have been using the GH4, Metabones adapter and Canon telephoto lenses with mixed results. The Canon 600mm f/4 II lens works but has problems occasionally with the aperture bouncing around aimlessly. The Canon 400mm f/5.6 works fine, but no image stabilization and the focus ring is touchy.

With that stated, I have had great success using the Tamron 150-600mm (Canon mount) lens with the Metabones adapter. It works quite well and I use it all the time to video birds and other animals. I love the focus ring on this lens. For 4k work, it is my go-to camera and lens.
