The new Sony 400-800mm Zoom should be an interesting option for bird photographers.... reasonably light weight (2.4 kg) and a matching price $ 2900.-

Definitely an interesting option. If IQ is along the lines of the 200-600 it will be a winner, especially for the price.

Also, full-time maual focus, for those occasions when the autofocus system just will not give you what you want.
