crazy low price.
A 4/300-600 from Nikon/Sony/Canon would probable approach 20K euros/dollars.

I think it should have a built-in TC but maybe they wanted to keep the price and weight as low as possible.

I hope it's successful, maybe this would increase the pressure on the 3 big brands to introduce more fast telephoto zooms.
It'll be interesting to see how good it is.

At ≈ 4 kg, it's no lightweight hand-holdable lens.

Brings back memories of Sigma's original sigi-monster behemoth.

Will be interesting to see how it shapes up.

I would have preferred f/5.6 which would cut the weight approximately in half and the size down by 1/3.

I think for hides or from another place where one has a tripod, it's great.
But I agree, a 5.6 would be much more fun.
I have the two Nikon PF lenses (in addition to the much heaver 4/600TC) and the low weight, especially of the 600PF, is awesome.
I think the new Sony 400-800 could be really cool for Sony users.
Maybe Nikon could make a 5.6/200-600PF for less than 2.5kg.

Have you tried the 180-600 f5.6-6.3  z lens? It's light, fast focusing, quick zooming and, IMO, very sharp. Not a pf lens, but very impressive. At least that's true for the copy I bought. Feather detail on birds is crisp and detailed more than I was expecting. Carrying weight is a joy and the foot makes a great handle. It's become my favorite lens. YMMV.

I have not yet shot with this lens, I am thinking about it. I have both PF lenses and the 600TC but sometimes a zoom would be nice.
But 600 is often too short, so the need for 800mm or 840mm, especially here in Germany, is high.
I think the new Sony 400-800 would be a really cool lens, but I do not want to add a 2nd system to my gear, especially as an A1 II costs about as much as my two Z8s.

Still waiting for canon to make a replacement for the canon fd 150-600 f5.6L lens. Wish they would hurry up.

A lens from 43 years ago?  Is there anybody at the company that would even remember that they ever made such a lens?

Don't know about Canon but Century Optics would.  They converted a lot to C mounts.  Canon continued to produce 50 a year for Century after the lens was officially discontinued.  Saw one with David Attenborough's initials on it.
