I've had the R6 for a few months. I don't have any of the dedicated F lenses and usually shoot with my Canon 500/4II with and without a converter. Today while out shooting birds the image in the viewfinder suddenly froze and the shutter wouldn't fire. After a few seconds the camera shut itself down and immediately started up by itself. It worked again for a short time and then the same thing happened. This kept happening for a few minutes with each time it freezing and shutting down and restarting by itself
After a few minutes the camera started functioning as normal and remained okay for the rest of the day. Happily I didn't miss a great opportunity during that time it was freezing, but what if it happens again when it really mattered.
It wasn't a hot day, about 65 degrees and windy.
Anyone had this happen?

You might check out this link, assuming you meant R6 and not F6:

And this one:

https://www.canonrumors.com/firmware-canon-releases-new-firmware-for-the-canon-eos-r5-and-canon-eos-r6-to-fix-freezing-bug/

Also, Google “Canon R6 shutter freeze.”

And at first, I was wondering how the viewfinder image in an optical viewfinder froze!!!

I’m sure that you know how to update the  firmware on your camera, but for those that don’t, here’s a link that may be informative:

You should change the F6 in the heading to R6 so people know what your asking help about.

Supposedly the Firmware 1.5.1 was supposed to fix the "freezing" problem, but I have Firmware 1.5.2, the latest, and my R6 froze up. Unfortunately, it started working as normal and is working as normal right now, so I have to worry that it will happen again just when I have the shot of my life in front of me.

When that happens we just have to slow down and enjoy the moment like a birdwatcher would. It reminds me of when a roll of film reached it’s end and there was no way to reload fast enough. Frustrating, but it happens with electronics too, just not as often.
