I think that’s the most disappointing review I’ve read of any new lens. He points out a lot of very disturbing issues. Hopefully, it’s a pre-production issue because I’d be upset if I’d spent that much money.

Wow, some serious issues with that lens - I'm thinking that it actually had a problem but it does bring back memories of the original version of the 200-400 which just could not produce a sharp image at longer shooting distances.  Some of the stuff could be addressed with F/W changes like the lack of on lens control of the VR mode (for example they could make the lens buttons optionally control that) and many replace their lens foot anyway (this was clearly made for sports shooters that primarily use a monopod).

One thing to note in that review is the person doing it had never used a Z9 before and was reviewing the lens using a Z9. I'm not putting much faith in his review. I've seen some users on Fred Miranda that have very good success with the new lens so we shall see.

This combination has finally swayed my decision to switch to mirrorless, and have placed my order for both a Z9 and the new 400 Z,
now begins the process of selling my 500/4, 400 f/2.8E, D5, and a host of others, leaving me still with the D850, 180-400 and the 70-200E.

The 400Z is an awesome lens, I've had it for over a month or so, actually since it started shipping!

Works well with internal TC = 560mm, Internal + External TC1.4X = 784mm, External 2.0TC = 800mm,  all sharp and with fast AF on Z( at least. Excellent all around with and without TC in any combo! Have not really used internal TC + TC2.0 except to test once and it all worked together just a bit slower, did not really study those files though!

Way to go Marc.  (I'm still waiting for my Z9 and 100-400 orders to be fulfilled... the 800 PF intrigues me also so can see that at some stage, but supply here is not good).

George, you have some stunning images on FM.  Congrats!
Make your life spectacular!

Reviews on the 100-400S seem very promising, I'm likely to consider this too at some stage.
What timeline have you been given for your order?
Here in OZ, I've been told next month.......fingers crossed.
