Yes it has a small buffer but as mentioned if it is too small for you get a faster card or use High Efficiency RAW which Nikon says is indistinguishable from lossless RAW and you get 1000+ frames. Naturally it remains to be seen how good the files are but if they are as good as they claim its another game changer. Sony A1 is almost $1000 more without a grip, add that and its even more. So in essence you have lots more money for a new super fast card but if you use their new RAW file and its just as good its a home run. Time will tell. They also mentioned newer faster cards are coming in 2022 so buffer will be even better.

It'll be interesting to see tests on the new raw format and if the compromises are visible at all in normal images.

Note *2 under #5 on this page doesn’t seem to make any sense, unless it is only for full uncompressed RAW. 20fps for 50 seconds would be 1000 images, as stated in #5. Three seconds would only be about 60 images.

Some new tests on the new RAW formats. Certainly not the last person we will hear from but very encouraging!

I still think shooting flying pigeons from a close distance with a busy background - like in the center of a city on a busy day - is a more challenging way to test AF speed and tracking accuracy.
