Any advice for someone looking for the best (FF, not DX) lens in the 24-70/2.8 that offers image stabilization and high IQ for Nikon F mount?  The Nikkor VR is too expensive for me (I use the G version of this lens and would be selling it for an IS lens, assuming there is a good replacement that is image stabilized).  The Sigma Art lens seems to be a disappointment from what I have read.  TIA.
Best wishes,

Martin

There is only Sigma and Tamron lens besides Nikon for a Nikon. Not sure what you are looking for, those are the only options..
The Sigma and Tamron with VR are about $1200, you can pick up a used Nikon 70-200 vii for $1500.
That is all unless you want a miracle cheap lens that is really good that no one has heard of.....

Thanks Dan. I am aware of what lenses are out there – I was hoping someone that has the Sigma or Tamron would offer their opinions on them. I am also aware of the cost of these lenses – a new Nikkor 24-70 VR (not 70-200) runs > $2k, which is out of my price range. The expense of a third party lens, after selling my current 24-70, would be much more manageable. I simply want to upgrade to an IS lens in this focal range without breaking the bank.

And fwiw, I don't believe in miracles ...
Best wishes,

Martin

Martin, I am sorry I read wrong... 24-70  not 70-200.
Since that is the case I have a non VR 24-70 that is fantastic. There is no reason for VR at that focal length IMO.
You can get used 24-70 Nikons for $5-800...
But you have one of those so if you are not happy with it, Sigma has a far better reputation that Tamron does, if you want VR...

Martin, I use the same version of the Nikon 24-70mmmm f2.8 lens you now own. The G version.

While not a 24-70mm f2.8, I also use the Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 G AF-S VR lens when I want something lighter and when I am traveling. It has VR but lacks f2.8. I have used it a lot inside buildings with lower light on my FX bodies. Its lower weight makes sower shutter speed images easier to get sharp. It may be worth looking at or renting to see if it meets your needs.

About a year and a half ago I was advised by a trusted source to check out the results of testing of the current at the time Nikon and the Tamron. The Tamron was superior and cheaper as well. I purchased the Tamron and use it with my D850. I haven't used it that much but have been very happy with it. I am currently considering a move to Sony and will be selling it along with other gear pretty soon.

Thanks for the advice – I hadn't considered the 24-85 ... Your help is appreciated.
Best wishes,

Martin
