They say they’ve fixed the EVF and sunlight issue, hopefully that is true. I think I’ll wait a week before updating in case they’ve introduced new problems.

update doesn't seem to work on my M1 MacBook. The driver update works. Then the firmware update software loads but as soon as I connect the camera it quits.
Running Big Sur 11.4

I might be wrong, but I don't believe M1 Macs are supported yet. Sony is pretty laggard when it comes to staying current.

It says that only Intel Macs are supported in the FW release on the page I linked:

Computer Hardware
The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:

Mac with an Intel processor (Mac with Apple silicon is not supported)
Hard drive space: 700 MB or more
RAM: 700 MB or more

Multiple sources now confirm that both major a1 bugs have been fixed. Namely IBIS start-up lag with some lenses and EVF blackout when the sun hits the eye sensor.

After updating the firmware yesterday I tried provoking the EVF blackout bug this morning.  No can do, so far looks good.
