That’s what was said last time the price was reduced several months ago, as well:

Always welcome news for the consumer.

I tend to feel that price reductions by a specific, "rounded " figure like the $500 are tactical marketing, as against prices affected by currency fluctuations. ($ last year in May against the Yen was 106.448. At 4th May 2021 is 109.103. Not major so I feel changes might be tactical).

A more welcome price change might be a shift in the Z series.... LOL. Been sitting on a fence for some time. Quite a comfortable fence as haven't been able to go anywhere, so no need to rush, but a tickle on prices later in the year might introduce an addition to my Nikon family...

I suppose if it gets repeated enough it’ll be correct eventually! Lol
I think one more iteration of the D850 is expected.

It took me 40 + years to switch from Leica film based SLR cameras to digital about 6 years ago mostly because I was forced into it by the market. Now that I have settled on the Nikon D850 I have been happy since the day I bought it a couple of years ago and teamed with the 500mm F5.6 pf as one of my lenses I am very content. I know that I am in the minority because time (and technology) marches on but I am not likely to make a change until my hand is forced. Hopefully Nikon knocks the D850 down another $500 in the near future as I'm probably about due for a new camera as a result of the number of actuations I've taken over the past couple of years.

If I was just making the change from film to digital these days I would probably go with SONY mirrorless. To all of you who are contemplating a change, best of luck to all of you and I hope you make the right choice for your niche. Warren

I don't think there will be a DSLR successor.  The Z7 II, is supposed to be the Z7 successor which was supposed to be the mirrorless D850...

The only issue I have with that line of thinking is that the Z7 and ZII don't use the 10 pin connector. If the 10 pin connector ends up on the Z9 then I would think the Z7 isn't the D850 replacement since the high resolution, studio camera (the D850) has a 10 pin connector.

You don’t think they will release any more DSLR’s? It doesn’t seem like they should but I thought they’d do a D850 update.

From what I can gather from reading Thom, an expected Z8 might well be the D850 replacement and like all their pro cameras would have a 10 pin connector, as will as the Z9.
