I read the whole menu, but didn't see anything about preventing the monitor from going blank when your eye gets close to the viewfinder when trying to review an image just taken.
Is there a function that will prevent this from happening?

Don't forget that you can also review the image in the viewfinder - sometimes a better option in bright light.
