I have to admit being disappointed with these new offerings. I appreciate the bigger battery in the A6600, but it's hardly worth upgrading from an A6400. So I wonder if Sony has given up on offering a high-end cropper and instead are relying on customers cropping high megapixel cameras like the A7R4 or is a "mini-A9" still in the pipeline sometime after the A7R4 has been out for a while?

R&D have obviously been cut back....I think the prices are outrageous. The 16-55 f2.8 is almost twice the price of the similar A mount lens.

6600 with the new lenses makes for a pretty compact and light kit with killer AF.

It seems a bit of a lazy upgrade. Same sensor and other specs very similar. The battery upgrade is the one great feature. Too bad they didn’t take the opportunity to improve the ergonomics a bit. An autofocus joystick would go a long way in improving handling.

Looks like they still haven't added a second control dial to improve handling.
Cheers,

Incredibly disappointed with the a6600 - still the same little body that is an ergonomic nightmare and it has nothing on the much cheaper a6400 for the kid of photography most people on this site do. A big pass on this one for me. I would go so far as to say that this camera is the most epic fail on Sony's part since going to mirrorless - it just misses the mark completely on just about everything that photographers have been asking for. With the exception of the eye tracking algorithm and IBIS, the Fuji X-T3 trounces this on every level.

Agreed. It’s a missed opportunity to improve the ghastly ergonomics. Just a few changes would have made it a solid camera even with the older hardware.
