No signs of that yet... Be nice to see a 300 2.8 PF, but there are probably better market opportunities for Nikon as they approach the point where Mirrorless becomes a better market options for sales than the DSLR market.

A 120-300mm f/2.8 would be okay for me except if it is as heavy or heavier than my current Nikon 300mm f/2.8.  I was hoping for a lighter version of this lens.

Yup:  Trouble is, that although we have no spec and technical details yet, to me, it does look at least as big as the current 300 F2.8 II.

Nikon's in development announcement beat Sony's actual release announcement of the 9II by a few days.

Only rumor, so far. Maybe yes and maybe no on the a9 ll. Nothing confirmed.

I would rather have a 120-300 f2.8 than a fixed 300 f2.8 anyday. It would certainly be a better range than a 70-200/210 f2.8 and the same speed at the top end.

I agree, and hopefully Nikon managed to bring it in a couple of lbs lighter than the 300/2.8VRII. But what I really wish is that Nikon would refresh their TC's....certainly the TC17EII and TC20EIII need improvement. That would make this lens a lot more attractive for general (i.e. non-sports) use.

I find these development announcements for camera bodies a little embarassing. We know that Nikon will follow the D5 with a D6, stands to reason. Not giving us much other information just reads like "We know Sony are about to release an update to the fastest and best focussing camera on the market, so bear with us, ours might be good too".

I expect a Canon "Leak" any time soon :)
