Better batteries than the OEM ones...

This is a pretty cool announcements, premium batteries for Sony cameras that use the larger NP-FZ100 (a7R3, a7R4, a73, a9).  The batteries are blue tooth connected to your smartphone that allows you to get real battery life, shots remaining, battery health, etc info on your smart phone...

The petapixel article linked above says Blue Tooth.

You have to use an Android or IOS app. Their instruction manual is very sketchy on details:

Seems interesting. I'm curious on cost and whether it is truly as powerful as the Sony OEM batteries. While it has some neat features I can't see this making a difference for me to be worth buying some new batteries. I could totally see how some people could use it though.

I haven’t checked on Sony battery cost, but the price seems very reasonable. Price and specs here:

Edit: Just checked Adorama. Price for Nitecore is much less and capacity is identical.

There will be a minimal amount of charge lost to power the blue tooth but I doubt it would be more than 5-10% of the battery capacity.
