I'm going to buy a Nikon 300mm f/2.8, used, but was wondering if there's a significant quality difference between the VR I and the new VR II model? Specially in terms of using with the new 1.4x teleconverter.

Any thoughts is much appreciated.

The VR2 is great but so was the VR - nothing wrong with the original model and it works fine with a TC.
