Whilst I am sure that the sensor is the same as the 6DmkII, which is not the best on the market by a long shot, the price point is going to get Canon some sales.

Full frame mirrorless bodies that are below and above the $1299 Canon EOS RP.

$798 - Sony a7
$998 - Sony a7 II

$1,299 - Canon EOS RP

$1,798 - Sony a7R II
$1,997 - Nikon Z6

With more lenses like these signals Canon’s intent to devote all R&D money solely for RF mount Camera bodies, camera lenses and camera accessories.

If no new EF lenses are announced within the next 17 months then do not expect any EF mount hardware release beyond that time period.

Interesting moves by Canon. Everyone else seems to be going high end in FF, but Canon is going low end in bodies where it's less crowded I guess, and reusing sensors. Sony had better get moving with the long lens lineup soon I think.

Neither Canon nor Nikon have a long lens even on their roadmap for mirrorless at the moment.  Sony is currently focusing on the sports market and they have the a9 and 400 f/2.8.  The a9 with it's new firmware will likely be the best sports AF on the market.  Canikon will need to respond for the Olympics.  That said, I am eager to test the 500PF on the Z7 once the new improved AF FW is out that they just announced.

That 70-200 is not internal zoom making it super compact for this type of lens:

How weather sealed will the 70/200 be when its long snout is extended and retracted? Why is it necessary to have a soft focus on a f1.2 lens...is the bokeh terrible otherwise? Will the eyelash be focused and the eyeball a soft mush at 1.2?

Smart of Canon to repurpose the image sensor of the 6D2 to lower cost.

Nikon and Canon know most photogs covering the 2020 Olympics won’t switch this early to mirrorless. So they will release their long fast primes for the Z and RF mount by 2022 Winter Olympics or 2024 Summer Olympics.

I think it is a smart move from Canon, despite the crippled video features but I find it quite odd that they have not released a lower end kit lens for this body at the same time? You spend $1299 on a small easy to use body then add a $3k lens that adds 400% weight to the kit? Really odd. In fact it is being sold with the 24-105 STM and adaptor in some countries.

I would love to see some pancake lenses for the R bodies. I have the Samyang 24mm on my Sony and it is a great "pocket drop" walk around.

BH has two kits to match with the $1299 body

For a total of $1,699 you get the RP + EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM Lens and Mount Adapter EF-EOS R Kit

For a total of $2,199 you get the RP + RF 24-105mm Lens

All of the lenses listed by EJ are going to cost more than the new body - puzzling marketing strategy.
