I just bought this lens at a very good price. Since I've seen this lens in use back in 1976 to 1977 I was wondering what it would have cost new back then. I intend to put my old Nikon FTN/F36 onto this lens and see if I have retained any of my manual focusing skills. I'm not looking for a exact cost but rather a bracket estimate.

Thanks
Larry

This page gives some serial numbers of various incarnations of the focal length:

Only suggestion of a price I have seen so far is $3000 for ED version new.

Yes it is. I'm waiting for delivery as I write this. Since my FTN meter has not worked for years I'll use my L358 Sekonic . Where did you look to see it $3,000? That would be a ton of cash back 1975, 1976 & 1977.
Thanks

In this thread, it is mentioned in a post by RaGa, that he bought one new from B and H for $1900 in 1988. I think $1900 is low for 1988, though. I haven’t found the $3000 price again(thought I bookmarked it!!!), but I’m still looking.

Edit: This is where it was suggested that the price was around $3000:
