As somone who owns a Sony A7r3, is it possible to attach a Canon RF mount lens to a Sony E mount camera?
Also if I were to ever use a Canon R system camera could a Sony FE mount lens be attached to it?
I currently own a significant amount  Canon DSLR gear and mainly use adapted lenses (though have one native lens to date) on the A7r3.and wonder whether a future investment in the Canon R system, including its lenses, would be incompatible with the Sony E mount due to lens mount diameter and/or flange.

Nope, not enough difference in the flange distance to allow an adapter in there. The difference is only 2mm so if one could make a 2mm thick adapter that allows a larger diameter lens mount to be adapted to a smaller one in 2mm it would be possible but due to the bayonet it can';t be done. It would have to be done through optical means which would change the focal length and aperture of the lens.
