It's very odd they only provide a Windows version of the update, and no mention of Mac download.

It does work with Windows 10. Update does - not - wipe out all current settings (thank goodness, didn't think about it until half-way thru).
Whole process is  s-l-o-w  as molasses. Cryptic, opaque Menus remain... the camera is and remains a major challenge to setup.

No issues with this update at all. I would give it the green light.

They still don't support the latest OS for Mac yet. I decided to try it on my new machine twice, and the same sequence of failures occurred as soon as I launched it. First I got a warning that my external drives were disconnected improperly, then communications with Bluetooth devices(keyboard and mouse) failed. I had to hold down the power button to do a restart to use the computer again. I tried it on a previous generation OS on an older machine, and it updated without issue.

I'm a Windows person, but I follow the Sony forum over on Fred Miranda and there is an extensive thread about getting Apple computers to play nice with the latest update. Here is a link to that discussion and what has worked for some Mac users (along with what has not worked). Perhaps there is some useful info there for you.

Thanks for the link. It really shows the limitations of their method of updating the firmware. Nikon and Canon do it the best way IMO. Copy the new file to a card and let the camera do it. Done.

One thing I noticed with this firmware shooting with it 16 hours a day all of last week on the island of Lanai is a fix for a very annoying bug from the original FW even though it isn't documented as a fix by Sony.  It's a bug that I was the first to discover and write about and contact Sony about - they weren't even aware of it before my review!  On the original FW, if you were in your My Menu, then took a shot, then hit the play button to review it and then hit the Menu button again, the FW would always take you to the Playback settings set-up page rather than back to the My menu page you were just on.  This was seriously annoying since you very rarely have to go back to the Playback setting set-up but you may need to go to My menu often.  This has been fixed.

It's a good reminder to update firmware after it's been tested by others for a week or so, often little bugs are fixed that they never even acknowledged existed.  This particular one makes the camera much more usable to me.
