Note that this FW will wipe out any customization you have done to the camera. In order to not have to go through and completely set-up the camera again, first save all of your settings to a flash card as per the instructions that come with the FW:

Saving and Loading Settings

Select Save/load settings > Save settings in the camera SETUP MENU to save settings to the memory card (note that the date and time, file number, folder name, and custom Picture Controls are not saved).
After updating to firmware version 1.03, select Save/load settings > Load settings in the SETUP MENU to reload the saved settings.

FWIW, none of the changes I've made to my D800E bodies were eliminated by this firmware update--nor were they with the last firmware update I installed.

It varies by camera - better safe than sorry :)

Thanks all for the info. Very helpful. Without these notices in NSN I would never know what the heck is going on in the world!

Thanks for posting the updates. After installing the updated firmware, I didn't see any changes to settings on my D800E or D4 cameras.

Installed it in my D500 and like the D4 and D800E, no changes to my settings.

No changes on my D7200 but my D7100 lost some settings - no biggie though.
