Hey David
I had the same problem once with a Nikon F5 film camera:

So I switched to a Nikon digital to help solve the problem. Now it' seems to be happening again:

So I think I'm going to switch to Sony to see if I can fix this once and for all!!!

Glad you're enjoying the new camera.

You have Multiple exposure mode on.  Turn it off, problem solved ;)
I actually had this happen for real with someone on their camera at a recent workshop.

I think all the above examples are all human error not the equipment! ;-)

David I would advise you send that D850 into Nikon Service Melville for repair. Don't forget to send in the attached images, "definitely" something going on there. Might be impact damage, caused the pixels to shift. I thought they had fixed that after the first batch of 850's, guess not.
