I currently own an a7R and was looking to upgrade to the a7Rll. However, the recent delivery of the lll seems a more logical approach. I will also consider some more lens shuffles looking at the 24-104 and the 100-400. I more than likely will sell the 70-200 f/4 and the 24-70 f/4.Does this to make sense considering I am not one to inventory a batch of lenses.

I can endorse the FE100-400GM - great image quality. On the other hand, I've never seen a 24-105 from any manufacturer, where I've been happy with the image quality. The Sony may be different, but ... My advice is to wait and see - currently not much (independent) experience with this lens out there.

This is probably going to come off as a bit cynical but it isn't intended that way.  There is no 24-105 or 24-120 class lens ever made by anybody that can even remotely come close to resolving the detail that a 42 megapixel sensor can resolve and I am certain the new Sony 24-105 won't either or they would have made it a G-master lens and charged $1000 more.  So why spend the extra money for an a7R Mk III if the lens is better suited for an a72 (there will probably be an a73 soon with all of the new features of the a7r3).  The lens will likely be perfectly suited for a 24 megapixel sensor.  So basically you are going to spend a whole lot of extra money over an a72 and not get the extra resolution.  Sure you will get the extra pixels but they won't contain any more info than the a7's 24 megapixels due to the lens.  I think the 24-70 G-master lens would be a much better match to the a7R3.  As for the 100-400, it is the best lens in the class made by any manufacturer even beating the highly rated Canon 100-400 Mk II.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. The 100-400 definitely stays on the buy list and the sale of 70-200 iremains a maybe. Again thanks for the advise ,always appreciated.
