I am heading to the high Arctic very soon where it will be very very cold. I was googling about battery life on the 1DX (original, NOT 1DXII), when I came across these alarming links.

Supposedly fixed after Jan 24 2014 but my bodies are from 2012.

Have you heard about this issue? Is a real problem or mostly a rumour or rare occurence? If true, this would be a total disaster for a very crucial photo shoot as all I have are 1DXs.

I like that both links quote an anonymous source.
In the three years to four years I had the 1Dx (replace with the II) I never had any focusing issues due to extreme cold weather.
I have shot at -30c on many occasions and the camera worked flawlessly.  Battery life was also very good, and I did own a early release of the Camera. I received my 1Dx in October of 2012, good luck on your trip.

That is very reassuring. Thanks, Mike.

As I told you in an email, I also have never heard of this and since you have two bodies, as long as you keep one protected while using the other one, you can switch if this problem should occur.
