D5 has way more power available to the whole system and has to process far fewer pixels.  To eliminate all the variables and  really make this a truly even fight one would have to use the grip with the D5 battery on the D850 and then do the test.  It may or may not matter but that makes it as close to apples to apples as possible.  It would not be the first camera to have better AF performance with a higher current battery installed.

Now we need one for comparing to D500 to see if D850 really can replace the D500 completely. Last time I photo'ed indoor combat sport with the D500, I did use its 3D tracking and it turned out quite well.

Yes, the D5 has 50% more voltage and can potentially move the lens elements faster. I'd like to see the test Matt did done again but using the battery grip.
