What lenses are missing Pat?  Just curious?
Main one is the 100-400.  After owning it a year I sold my 70-200 2.8 and rely on it a lot. I tried 2 different 80-400's on 2 different 810's and they just didn't do it for me.  I gave them both a pretty good workout but it could have been just me.  I go along with the theory that you date bodies but marry lenses.
The other is the 400 DO II which I often use with extenders.

That said, hats off to Nikon for coming up with a wonderful new body.  I'd love to date it and have that versatility.

Re: buffer, there is this:

The D850 is rated to shoot full-resolution, 14-bit lossless compressed RAW images at up to 7 frames per second with a buffer depth of 51 frames. If you reduce the bit depth to 12-bit, that buffer is stated to increase to 170 frames. We've also been told that the buffer in DX mode is 200 frames.

Lot's of choices, but I've been away from Nikon for sometime and haven't kept up with lens news.

Thanks
Pretty much the Zeiss Milvus line across the board.  A close second choice would be the Sigma Art series.  IF AF is important than the Sigma Arts from top to bottom.

It is in the very top post in this thread and then I expand on it for each of the different frame sizes later in the thread.

Yeah, that lens is a weak point in the lineup for sure as is the 70-300.  Nikon has no 400 offering that is good other than the f/2.8.

Good comparison table between D850, D810 and D800:

And here's one against the EOS 5D Mk IV:

Thanks, E.J. The Milvus line looks to be a step up from the previous generation ZF.2 lenses. I noticed they haven't 25mm ZF.2 yet.

Here's a link to an interview with someone who did two weeks with a pre-production model:

There are other links to high res samples produced from RAW files on the side of the page.

I'm impressed by the high ISO image quality - looking good.
Also glad Adobe released an ACR update so quickly.
Let's see what gives.

Hardly a real world independent review of this camera; Richard Peters is a Nikon fanboy and Nikon ambassador. More interested in a real world independent review. Im sure its a great camera by the way.

It is revealed at the bottom of the page that he is a Nikon Ambassador. Nothing wrong with that. He is an accomplished photographer as revealed by his images and awards:

http://www.richardpetersphotolibrary.com/

https://www.richardpeters.co.uk/wildlif ... hy/colour/

https://www.richardpeters.co.uk/wildlif ... ack-white/

https://www.richardpeters.co.uk/wildlif ... en-safari/

https://www.richardpeters.co.uk/wildlif ... ght-shade/

I do hope other reviews will come out soon, but this is all I've seen so far. If the low light comparison to the D810 is accurate, the grain/noise shows much improvement over the D810.

Actually i know Richard Peters. He has been with me on various trips and yes he had a nr of awards and has some nice images. Indeed there is nothing wrong with it and i have not said that either: but i take any input of an ambassador of whatever camera make in a light hearted way; they are not going to be negative about a camera make they represent in anyway. I am not a Nikon user anymore but would still be interested in a decent independent review of an accomplished photographer.

Review on the raw files kinda yawn worthy performance, looks to be pretty much the same level we have seen from Sony for a while now. So good but not worth switching brands for.
