My wife and I just finished a Danube river cruise. There were about 130 people on board. 

I thought I would share what I observed as to what people were using to capture images indoors and outdoors.  While unscientific, it probably confirms what you may be observing too:  

Two of us had DSLRs. Of those two, I was the only one with more than one lens for it. Both Nikons. 
DSLRS--2%
Older type Point and shoots, probably 5-10 years old--10%
Small new mirrorless cameras--10%
Cell phones, various brands--78% 

Some of the point and shoot users said they have DSLRs but left them at home and preferred to use the smaller point and shoot for travel.

This is the same thing we noticed 3 years ago. The majority of people are happy enough with cell phone images. I guess they use them for Face Book posting and the like. They sure missed some great opportunities for more creative images.
