Just comparing MTF's between the new 16-35 f/2.8 and the older 16-35 f/4 and the differences, especially in the corners are pretty substantial.

Can't find MTF's for the 12-24 yet.

Not a great fan of sun stars (overworked)....is there any downside of 11 blade aperture? any pluses? Rounding out the background blur deems to work fine with 9.

The more blades, the rounder the aperture, the smoother the OOF specular highlights and general bokeh

OK, I've seen the 14-24 MTF's now and they are OK, not great but OK for a lens like this. Approximately on par with the 16-35 f/4 FE lens which is really good in the center but leaves just a bit to be desired in the corners compared to primes in the range. The 16-35's MTFs in the corner are outstanding for a lens like this.

The 12-24 is priced just a touch higher than the Sigma version, presuming $1699 will equal €1699 ;) Sigma has 9 blades, for sun star fans :)

Sony are getting there.

With the high speed sport oriented a9 shipping soon, it is imperative that they get some fast long lenses out there.  The short end is now well covered.

I was going to write something like that in my post but figured I have done so often enough :)
