Four new lenses, three of which are in the very excellent Art line:
14mm f/1.8  - super fast for a lens this wide
135mm f/1.8 - should be a great portrait lens
24-70mm f/2.8 - stabilized high end 24-70

And one Consumer grade lens:
100-400 f/5-6.3

the description of the 100-400 reads like they are trying to compete with lenses like the EF 4.5-5.6/100-400L IS II. If they can match the optical quality (which remains to be seen) it might be interesting giving the weight.

Do you know if this will do AF with cameras like a 7D @400 with f.6.3? The old 7D does not work with AF beyond to f5.6. Maybe the lens "lies" to the camera and tells it that the f-stop is 5.6 instead of really being 6.3.

The lens is f/5-6.3, so the camera will always read it as an f/5 lens. No lying needed.

I also find this lens very interesting and hope it can be a replacement for both my Sony 70-300 and the old Canon 400 f/5.6. Since Sigma lenses combined with the MC=11 adapter are supposed to enable all functions on a Sony a6500, it would be great to have a single lens do the job of those two lenses.

Here is a little more info on that lens

No they aren't, this is a contemporary line lens which is a nuch lighter build quality and it's f/6.3 on the long end.  This is a budget option.  if they were trying to compete head to head in the pro line lens arena it would have been a metal build Sport lens.

Sigma f/6.3 lenses have always focused on cameras that have an f/5.6 cut-off as they fool the camera into thinking it's an f/5 lens.

I'll be interested to see how the 24-70 plays out; it could be a replacement (for me) for the Nikon 24-70 (non-VR version). I passed on Nikon's upgrade due to size, weight, price, filter size and equivocal reports on any sharpness improvements. I don't see a price projection or weight for this lens; size implies that's it's significantly shorter than either Nikon version (which seems odd). Thread size is 82 mm (boo!), just like the newer Nikon.

In the past, how quickly has Sigma been able to actually deliver their new ART lenses after they have been announced ?
Just trying to figure out if we are in for a long wait, or if we can expect to have them in shops in 1-2 months.

I'd wait until the reviews come out on coma. The art lenses seem to be a mixed bag in that regard. I settled for the 15-30 f2.8 tamron.

They haven't been consistent with the distance in time between announcement and availability. I have a suspicion that some of these will be available very soon after announcement and others will be a longer wait. It might even be that one or two of these lenses were not originally going to be announced with the others. It appears that competitors (like Canon and Zeiss) were already reacting to the upcoming announcements with strategic moves of their own. Zeiss lowered prices only on similar lenses, and rumors came out of Canon talking about upcoming lenses that may constitute revised competitors.

Sigma batches production and retools their lines with some frequency, rotating between lenses they produce every month or two on most lines. That means that if you don't get in on the initial release, supply might be constrained for more months than with other manufacturers. The luckiest are those that live in Japan or the U.S. and who shoot Canon. Sigma sends supply first to those countries in the Canon mount first, then Nikon, then the others.

Sigma also tends to be an early discounter of their prices. Usually within a year, deals can be seen, but they are only for for 5-10 percent off.

I've been very impressed with Sigma's introductions over the past couple of years. I suspect I'll wind up with two of these newly announced lenses.

It says the 100-400 has a minimum focus distance of 0.16m or 6.3 inches. Could this be correct? Surely that must just be for the lens at 100mm? That would be unbelievable if it focused that close at 400mm.

The Sigma announcement specifically mentions its use for astrophotography so I am hoping coma is properly corrected.  It could be a wonderful astro lense with that speed.  If I put this on my Fuji Xt2 with a metabones speedbooster I am looking at f 1.4 14mm FF equivalent. Wouldn't that be nice for a starscape.

I would hope that a 100-400 sport version comes out with f5.6 at the long end, but I would not swap my 100-400 II ;)

The 135/1.8 is now priced at $1,400 at B&H. Sigma must be pretty confident about this lens to offer it for $400 more than the legendary Canon EF 135/2.

The 14mm f/1.8 basically clocks the competition in lens rental's bench tests. Check it out stopped down to f/2.8 vs some of the available f/2.8 14mm lenses. Would have loved to ahve seen a comparison to the Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 which is the best lens in this genre I have tested to date:

Yup.  Looks like that way now.  The Canon 135 F2 doesn't have legendary status anymore.  The Zeiss 135 F2 still does.  Had owned the Canon for 5 years and know it well.  The Sigma has pushed the bench mark forward, just like the 85 F1.4 Sigma ART has now become the benchmark and replaced the Zeiss as the gold standard.
