From all the information I have seen, the answer is NO. I read some posts that even said that once it is brought into the US, it is considered "gray market".

Best to contact them. They have significantly eased their policies over the last year. If you explain to them that you purchased the lens in Canada while there and then later brought it to the USA they will likely work on it. They might not honor any warranty but they should do it for the normal repair charge for that lens.

Unfortunately, Nikon service has been lately charging high prices for service. I keep hearing a "bench charge" of around $400 for anything no matter how minor. Some have had better luck though.

I have heard very good reviews at Nikonians.org for Authorized Photo Service in Illinois. I haven't used them yet, but they will get my business next time I need an out of warranty repair.

I used APS several times including once when my D800 had an  intermittent problem. Extremely satisfied. When I called about the status of the intermittent issue, the owner or his son answered and put me on hold to talk to the technician. Their patience was considerable.   No comparison with Nikon Service.  A friend also used them regularly and was impressed. APS is on a level with Canon Service.  Go for it.
