Two of us are doing a Yellowstone photo trip with the majority of time spent on hiking trails. Delta Air lists pepper spray as not allowed, assuming that means checked-in as well as carry-on, of course.  For those that fly in via Bozeman,is there a suggested source for this (assuming not available within the Park)?

You should check to see if there is a Bass Pro, Cabela's, REI in the area. You may even be able to pick it up in a local Walmart.

It sounds like you will at least be passing through Gardiner MT,  if not staying there. I would check with the local chamber of commerce if they know of pepper spray sources in town. I would be very surprised if you could not find pepper spray for bears in Gardiner.

There's also an REI in Bozeman just east of the airport.

You will be able to buy it inside the park. Otherwise, get it in the town you fly into. The park link shows the ability to rent at canyon. That may not be a bad idea as it is pricey stuff and you will not be able to take it home with you.

Jeff, we were able to rent it inside the park at the camp grounds, worked well for us last year.

A few weeks ago the visitor center at Canyon had bear spray at a pretty good price.  Smith's in Jackson, Wyoming usually has about the best price I find unless there is a sale going on somewhere.  You may want to do a bit of research on brands.  I read somewhere that not all brands are created equal.  Renting would be ideal since you cannot take it home on the airplane with you although I think you can mail it but it has to travel ground mail not by air.

With BS, it is really important to know how to use it. It won't do you a bit of good if you aim at the bear or the wind is blowing in your face. Shoot it at the ground about 12' in front of you to create a wall allowing the bear to back off. A direct hit will only anger the beast. Wind blown spray coming at you will disable the sprayer and may knock you down and become ready lunch.

For brands, Sabre Red is my choice for pepper spray. They do extensive quality testing on their pepper solution for quality assurance. There web site has several pages explaining their QA testing.
