I have encountered a bit of a problem in setting up rear button focus on the 7DMkII. I have moved metering/focus to the AF-on button which now functions properly but the shutter button focus remains in place. How do I turn the latter off?

It's in the manual. Look at the section on Custom Controls and in your menu under Custom controls where you can remve focus from the shutter button and place it on the back button.

I have been over the custom function section repeatedly. I have managed to get rear button focus on---no problem. But I still have shutter button focus as well and cannot seem to find the path to turning off that function.

Go to the same custom functions screen you used to change the rear AF button and change the shutter release button to just "meter start" option. Make sure to press the set button before leaving the screen, And if you have the camera set to one of the user customer settings (C1, C2, C3) you will need to lock those changes before turning the camera off.

Cheers,

Jim

Thank you E.J. and Jim. That last suggestion did it. I don't understand why they make it so involved and make these little changes from one camera to the next.
