Has anyone been able to get their hands on the new Nokon 2x Teleconverter and if so how does it perform? hcarl

Thanks for reply E.J. Looks like someone on DPR has one or tried one at least and sounds like it may be a winner. hcarl

The US tends to get stuff much later than Asia and Europe these days.

The US has the requirement that they release new products evenly through out the US on the day of release. Combine this with the need for Nikon to repackage equipment and to collect serial numbers which they will claim to not have later, it's no wonder that stuff is released later in the US than in other countries.

Additionally, air freight is no longer used, the stuff gets put on a boat.

Thanks Con for posting that review. I had a look at the Heron post in the Birds forum and it looks good also. It will be interesting to see how the NSN guys find the TC 111 once they get it onto their gear. hcarl

Unfortunately mine missed getting here by 3 or 4 days or I would have taken it with me to NZ. I'll do a thorough test when I get back and have it in hand on both the 500 and the 200-400

By the way, it is III not 111. III is in Roman Numerals and means 3. 111 is a hundred eleven. :D

Look forward to that EJ as I plan to buy the new TC III model for my 500VR in the next few months.

Just got mine. I am in Maui and Allen shipped it to me, got it 15min ago via UPS to the condo we rented. Will try it more later but 1st works on the 70-200vsII which we knew, works on the 600vr which we knew, works also on the 200-400vr which people on DPR said did not work. I have 9 days to put it to the test, more in the days ahead.

I'd love to hear how your images come out with the 200-400.

My tests using it on DX today with the D300s and 500VR is that it's worse than on FF...to the point where my TC17EII blows it away, so mine will be going back.

Did you do the focus adjustment for the 500vr + tc20eIII combination?

I won't use AF Calibration as it's a fudge factor that works at one focal length...and effects things nearer and more distant. Kinda why both Nikon and canon advise in their manuals that it can cause issues.

My 500 VR, TC14EII and TC17EII are dead nuts perfect.

By the way...I did try the 2.0 on a friends 300 2.8 and it works a whole lot better.

Just as it says on the Nikon site this Teleconverter works with F2.8 lens and may have problems with others. Have a look here. http://nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Pro ... E-III.html Now we know that the 1.4 TC and the 1.7 TC work with F/4 lenses but as it says on the Nikon list they may not. I had my 500 AFSII and my 1.4 and 1.7 TC's sent back to Nikon and they came back working fine on my D300 and on my D2X. Previously they would only work on my F100. I did not get an answer as to what they replaced in the 500 (some circuit board) but the Tc's needed adjustment of the coupling pins. I also have found that the focus adjustment works best at the distance that it is done for and in my case longer distance shots can be a hit and miss for focus. hcarl

It works excellently on a 70-200, 200f2and a 300 2.8...myself or the person who bopught it from me hadn't tried it on other lenses yet, other than the less than stellar performance I got with my 500f4.
